Professionalism

After watching this video, I has become even more clear about the importance of technology in the classroom. The video reinforces the message that teachers should use social media in the classroom to foster student learning and development. As well, as teachers are enforcing this importance aspect in the classroom, they need to keep the issues of safety and sesory in mind. As a classroom teacher, I think it is imperataive that the teacher educates their students on the pros and cons of the Internet and Social Media. The advisory was importance to watch because it enabled me to see that teachers and Social Media experts are working together in order to advise students about this important topic of interest that is continuously thriving. although this video was very eye opening and presented many good points, the students vioces were not integrated into the video, and therefore, the video could be considered to be biased.

Why Communicate Through Technology?

Hi friends,

It is evident that technology has become a huge part of our lives in just the past 10 years, but even in the last 5 years there has been a huge push to integrate technology into the classroom. I think technology is a great way to incorporate differentiated instruction in your lesson, as well as creating engaging and interactive lessons for students. I feel that anything these days that involves technology will be the means to educating students, because its what they know...it's what they live and breathe. There are so many great programs that enable students to engage in experiential and hands on learning. Glogster, Brain Pop, Kidspiration, Live Binder, Smart Technology, and Slide Rocket are just a few of the multiple opportunities students can explore through technology.

In relation to communication, I believe that technology is the mediator of communication between parents/guardians and the classroom teacher. Everyone is extremely busy these days, and having to schedule face-to-face meetings and phone calls can be difficult for all, especially when the agendas with the notes in them don't get home :). Blogs, websites, and Twitter are great communication tools that teachers should embed in their classroom environments because it allows parents to stay connected with their child's class 24 hours/day. For example, on my edublog, I could post information regarding important events, things that are unique to our class, and homework. If students forget to bring home their agendas or cannot remember something the student and/or their parents are one click away from finding that information. As well, as the classroom teacher, I would post my long range plans, and educational resources for parents to check out so they are able to stay in the loop too. Using technology tools like Twitter and Blogger to communicate with parents and students is an amazing option, because it allows everyone to stay connected with the click of a button!

Technolgy in a Teacher's World

Technology has many positives and negatives when it comes to implementing it into an educational setting. Some people have come to love technology, while others are not so fond of the idea. As well, some may say that technology has taken over our children's lives, and they might be right, but the question is, is this 'take over' a good thing or a bad thing? Personally, I believe that technology has many positives when it comes to integrating it into a classroom setting. Not only can tech help to spark the interest of our students, but it is an extremely useful tool for all students who learn in different ways. There has been a big push for ddifferentiated instruction in the classroom, and the use of technology can further help the teacher to provide accommodation and modification for all students that require it. There are so many different tools and strategies that can be integrated into the classroom via technology, which is awesome! I cannot wait to start using some of the awesome tools in my future classroom!
